Our Award Methodology
Every product that receives a Baby Choice Guide Gold or Silver award has been evaluated against a four-part editorial framework by the Baby Choice Guide Editorial Team. This page explains exactly how that process works.
Our core principles
- No product receives an award through a paid placement or brand partnership.
- Our evaluation criteria are fixed before shortlisting begins each cycle.
- Any product that fails our safety check is excluded regardless of other scores.
- We disclose affiliate relationships transparently on our Disclosure page.
- Awards reflect editorial opinion, not consumer vote counts or social metrics.
How we shortlist products
At the start of each annual award cycle, the Baby Choice Guide Editorial Team identifies products across all 8 developmental categories that have launched or received significant updates in the past 12 months. We look at what is currently available to Indian parents — considering local availability, Indian safety certifications, and price accessibility.
We do not accept nominations as a primary shortlisting route. Nominations submitted through our contact form are reviewed but do not guarantee evaluation. The shortlist is set editorially before scoring begins.
The four-part framework
Safety
Mandatory pass/failWe check for BIS certification compliance, BPA-free and phthalate-free materials, and age-appropriate construction. A product that fails on any safety dimension is immediately excluded — there is no partial credit. This criterion cannot be offset by high scores elsewhere.
Developmental Impact
Scored — high weightWe assess how directly the product supports a specific developmental milestone and whether that connection is grounded in established child development principles. Products that support multiple developmental areas within one stage score higher than those with a narrow single use.
Real-World Relevance
Scored — medium weightWe consider how the product performs in everyday parenting situations — not just in ideal conditions. This includes ease of cleaning, how it fits into Indian home settings, durability under daily use, and whether it works for a range of family setups.
Longevity and Value
Scored — medium weightProducts that remain useful across multiple developmental stages score higher than those with a very narrow window of usefulness. We also consider whether the price point is reasonable relative to the quality, durability, and developmental coverage the product provides.
Award tiers
Gold Award
Awarded to the highest-scoring product in its subcategory. A Gold winner represents our strongest editorial recommendation for parents in that developmental area.
Silver Award
Awarded to the runner-up in each subcategory. Silver winners are strong picks and may be a better fit depending on a family's specific needs or budget.
There are no ties. No category has more than one Gold and one Silver. Awards are reviewed annually — previous winners do not carry forward automatically.
How we update selections
Award selections are reviewed annually. If a product is recalled, significantly changed, or found to have a safety issue after the award cycle closes, we will remove or flag its entry as quickly as possible. We do not accept payment to update, remove, or restore a listing.
If you believe a listed product has a safety issue, please contact us immediately with supporting information.
